UKCarMovement’s Guide to Current Scrap Car Prices – January 2021

If you’re looking to scrap a car in Hertfordshire or you want car scrapping in North London or Essex, then UKCarMovement is your perfect partner.  Not only do we scrap cars in Herts, we also scrap other vehicles, including vans and motorcycles in Hertford too.  We’re local to the North London and Hertfordshire area and we make it really convenient.  There’s no hiring a tow truck to get your scrap car to us, we’ve got car scrapping sorted!  For no extra cost, we’ll come and collect your scrap car in Welwyn or other vehicle from any address in North London or Hertfordshire, such as car scrapping in Abbots Langley for example.  We’ll also make that scrap car collection contactless, always putting our customers’ safety first.  Just leave your keys in a safe place and make sure the V5 Log-Book is in the vehicle, then, just sit back and relax while we scrap your vehicle, paying your money into your bank account on the very same day.  While on the subject of money, we know that you want to get the most competitive price so let’s look at the current car scrap prices.

Important UKCarMovement Car Scrapping Facts

Just before we do that, we need to let you know a couple of other important facts:

  • We own our ATF registered scrap yard in Herts so there’s no third-party involvement.   You take all the profit (there are lots of third parties out there that sell your vehicle on, meaning you get less money out of the transaction).
  • We provide you with your COD (Certificate of Destruction) as soon as we’ve done the job – you’ll need it for your records.
  • Car scrapping prices in Stevenage or Broxbourne (or anywhere in North London and Herts) for example also depend on the vehicle make, model, weight of vehicle, age and condition.  If your vehicle has lost vital parts (e.g., carburetor, engine, battery etc.) you won’t get as much as if it had all of its parts intact.
  • Remember that car scrapping prices in Cheshunt (and the rest of Herts & London) vary depending on location in England.  You might find that Northern areas give better prices but that’s due to their location and their own overheads which are usually less expensive than the South of the country.
  • Car scrapping prices do change because of the way that metal is traded.   So, you might get a better price from one week to another but usually, fluctuation is very small.
  • UKCarMovement aims to beat any quote you’ve received – don’t scrap your car in Ware, Hertfordshire or North London without talking to us first!

An Upturn for the Car Scrapping Industry

So, what’s the story relating to car scrapping prices for the beginning of 2021?  Well, as we all know, it’s been a very changeable 12 months especially because of the COVID-19 lockdowns.  While new cars have also slowed down significantly, with the lowest numbers reported since 1970, getting rid of old cars has definitely seen an uplift.  It’s likely that people are re-assessing their lifestyles.  Most of us now work from home so there’s less need for a car, and two car families are definitely having a re-think!  Plus, public transport is better than ever, with numerous trains, tubes and buses in London and Herts and, let’s not forget that Cross-Rail is coming…eventually!  At UKCarMovement, we’re seeing more and more people looking to scrap their old cars in Waltham Forest, Herts and London and we think there’s another reason too.  It’s the fastest way to quick money in the bank – and a nice sum too!  With the pandemic, there’s more economic uncertainty than ever before.  Scrapping a car in North London or car scrapping in Welwyn Garden City in Herts is a great way to guarantee extra money fast.

Car Scrapping – a Whopping 27% Increase on 2020!

Did you know that the average price for scrapping a vehicle in 2020 was around £200? We’ve got some good news for you!  We’re seeing a tremendous boost to that price this January 2021, with the average value shifting up to £202.  That’s a 27% increase year on year (to last January 2020) and a 5% increase on the December 2021 car scrapping figures in Herts and North London.  Prices have continued to rise over the past 9 months, showing that the car scrapping market isn’t slowing down – it’s speeding up!

Here are some more fascinating car scrapping facts from UKCarMovement:

  • The most popular vehicle that’s scrapped is a Ford Focus, which gets on average £195, that’s 14% up on December last year, when a Ford Focus scrap price would give you around £171.
  • The other popular cars that are scrapped regularly include the Vauxhall Corsa which can get around £182 (that’s an 11% upward shift on last month), Ford Fiesta which can get around £184 (that’s an 8% rise on last month, December) and the Peugeot 206 which value at around £210, that’s 7% up on December scrapping prices.
